Kat Onoma is a French group whose vocals might bother those who are allergic to French accent because their lyrics are mostly written in English.

This live album promotes a festival named C’est dans la Vallée where Kat Onoma played in september 2001 when it took place for the first time. By the way, it seems that the group won some kind of competition there when we look at the labels of the numerous sponsors (among which is the French Ministry of the Arts and various other regional and local organizations) !!

Concerning the music, Kat Onoma adds successfully a touch of electro to some of their songs, “Old Trouble” and “Family Dingo” for example. Rodolphe Burger’s voice intermingles with occasional samples, and discreet violins and sax. The opening song “Petit Vagabond” sets the tone of the album with its lyrics taken from William Blake. The second track is one of the best songs on the record, the violins conveying a pastoral atmosphere. Then, Kat Onoma plays one of their purple passage: “Cupid” is here rather neat but remains brilliant though. Their Velvet Underground cover “Over You” which they had already released on their previous live album Happy Birthday Public is brilliantly performed (as well as their Kraftwerk cover “Radioactivity”).

This live singles out such a sense of unity that we could think that this is a studio album. Anyway, this record has an unquestionable appeal about it.

Kat Onoma est un groupe français dont la majorité des paroles est en anglais, le chant peut donc gêner les allergiques de l’accent français.

Ce live fait la promotion de festival C’est dans la Vallée où Kat Onoma a joué lors de sa première édition en septembre 2001. Il semblerait d’ailleurs que le groupe y ait gagné un défi-jeune pour sortir leur disque vu le nombre de sponsors : Ministère de la Culture, Conseil Général du Haut-Rhin, région Alsace, le phonogramme de la langue du chat ( ?) ainsi que la fédé Hiéro de Colmar !!

En ce qui concerne la musique, Kat Onoma rajoute une pointe d’électro avec bonheur sur ses chansons comme « Old trouble » ou «  Family Dingo ». La voix de Rodolphe Burger se mêle parfaitement aux séquences envoyées ainsi qu’aux pointes de violon et de sax. La chanson d’entrée « Petit Vagabond » met l’auditeur dans l’ambiance du disque avec ses paroles empruntées au poète anglais William Blake. La seconde chanson est une des meilleurs moments de l’album avec ses violons rendant une ambiance bucolique avant d’attaquer un de leurs morceaux de bravoure « Cupid », dont la version ici propre reste magistrale. Leur reprise  du Velvet Underground « Over You », qu’ils avaient déjà publié sur leur précédent live « Happy Birthday Public », est parfaitement exécutée, tout comme leur reprise du « radioactivity » de Kratwerk.

Il se dégage de ce live une grande unité à tel point que l’on pourrait penser que c’est un album studio. Ce disque possède un charme indéniable.
