I like Interpol a lot. They're really cool. They dress well, come from NYC, speak French without the slightest accent and succeed in making the greatest songs I've heard in a long time.

This ep, their first release on matador announces the release of "Turn on the Bright Lights," their highly anticipated debut lp. It features three songs : PDA, which was already on the band's two previous eps, NYC and Specialist. PDA was #1 on my last year's top ten songs and even though i've grown a little bored of it, it's still awesome. This new version has stronger drumming and a thicker sound. "you're so cute when you're frustrated, dear." NYC is about, well, New York City (I know you've supported me for a long time/somehow i'm not impressed) and the chorus goes like this : "New York cares." Strongly emotional and one of the band's best songs. The following song, Specialist is a 6 minutes and half epic song with many crescendos, the real surprise in this ep. It is far from being filler material.

All the guys in Interpol (they're four) are talented musicians, the drummer's impressive and the singer's voice, even though it sounds disturbingly like Ian Curtis' succeeds in conveying all the disturbed emotions which fill the songs' lyrics.
